It's time to step up...

A word from Pastor Randy

Happy New Year!   As we continue to enjoy the rich experiences of the holidays, we are also looking ahead to the new year with all that God has in store for us in life and ministry!  Christians, of all people, should look forward to every new beginning with the hope that is ours in Jesus Christ.  Just as every day is "the day the Lord has made" and "we should rejoice in it," so every new year beginning should be launched with the same optimism rooted in our faith in Him Who is Sovereign Lord and loving Father.  We must heed what the angel said on that first Christmas morning, "Don't be afraid!"  We must live with the "no fear" factor of Christ being for us, knowing that if that is true-and it is!-then nothing or no one can be victorious against us! (Romans 8)

Yes, many are approaching 2012 with some serious reservations.  Talk of calamity and "end-of-world" scenarios related to "Mayan calendars" and doomsday prophets have been popping up fairly consistently in some corners of the media world.  Reasons for more serious concerns are certainly found in the economic, social  and political upheaval of our times.  Personal challenges that threaten our well-being face all of us.  But, we live by faith in Jesus Christ, and we are confident that "He Who began a good work in us, will complete it!"  Rather than holding back in fear or timidity with the "what ifs?" of life's potential trials and tribulations, we are called to "step up" and live boldly and courageously as passionate followers of our Lord.

In line with that calling, we at Cayman Islands Baptist Church are stepping into the New Year with great boldness and courage with our "Stepping Up to Follow Jesus" emphasis for January.  All of us have the call and the privilege to step up for Jesus Christ and live for His glory as we make a fresh start in 2012.  We begin with the New Year's weekend!

We launch the New Year with a New Year's Eve showing of the movie, "Courageous", beginning at 10:00 p.m. on Saturday evening.  Then, on New Year's Sunday morning, we will convene bright and early at Smith's Cove for baptism at 7:30.  (No Sunday School on New Year's morning.)  At 10:00, we will come together for a "Sacred Assembly" as God's people for a time of worship and commitment.

As your pastor, I am asking every member, young and old, and every friend of Cayman Islands Baptist Church to be present for the New Year's morning service.  I can assure you, this will be a most blessed service, and we will "step up for the glory of God!"   That will launch "Five Great Sundays of January."  The whole month promises to be a tremendous time of worship, fellowship, and growing discipleship.  God is drawing us to Himself to be His holy people on mission with the Gospel!

These truly are exciting days for us at Cayman Islands Baptist Church.  I pray that you will join us and share in these pivotal days of new beginnings!

Sincerely in Christ,

Pastor Randy
